John Knox Community Preschool
The Reason for the Season
Some wonderful ideas for making memories with your family this season, courtesy of  Teacher Haley!

*Purchase or make an Advent calendar with small treats inside to open and enjoy each day. (You can purchase these at QFC or Safeway, for ideas on making your own try Pinterest).

*Put an Advent wreath on a table somewhere in your home. All you need is 5 candles – 1 in the middle and 4 others around it. Light one candle the first Sunday of Advent, 2 candles the 2nd week, etc. The middle candle is the Christ candle, to be lit on Christmas eve. We also like to read a short Bible passage and sing one verse of a Christmas carol as we light the candle. More info here.

*Participate in a Giving Tree or ‘adopt-a-child’ program for Christmas. Help your children practice generosity by picking out gifts for a child in need. For example, Project Angel Tree is a program to give gifts to children whose parents are incarcerated. There are lots of other local programs like this one too.

*Attend Advent services at your local church. John Knox Presbyterian offers 2 services each Sunday, 9 AM or 10:45 AM. Nursery care is available for children 0-5, Sunday school for K-6th grade offered at 9 AM. Christmas Eve Family Services are at 5:30 and 7 PM, Candlelight service at 10 PM.
